Regarding Bruce Dold’s Aug. 22 column (Op-Ed):
Although Al Salvi needs no defense from us, I would like to point out some glaring inaccuracies in the column regarding Salvi’s failure to win the last election:
First, he was the victim of an extremely well-financed media campaign run by the labor unions and the National Organization for Women to defeat him.
Second, he was wrongly depicted by the media as a foe of Medicare and the elderly.
Third, his stand for sensible gun control, instead of confiscatory unconstitutional laws, was blown completely out of proportion by the news media (something they are trying again with his latest pronouncement on the issue.)
Fourth, he was the victim of a biased, self-serving, liberal media, including many on the Tribune staff, that was determined to pander to ethnic and minority concerns in order to be popular.
If your paper would commission an honest poll, you may be surprised at where this state stands on the right to life.
