The Hoffman Estates Capital Improvements Board is moving forward on buying new financial software for the village and training employees working with it.

According to Director of Finance Hella Tomczak, the new technology is estimated to cost just less than $400,000 and will be phased in over two years.

Following a suggestion by village Trustee Gail Giacalone, the board last week recommended $175,000 be budgeted for software and training for the next two years. Hoffman Estates must have a new system in place before a computer changeover in the year 2000.

To offer residents the same services as a utility company, Tomczak said, the new system is expected to allow direct bank debits of utility bills plus public access to the village’s computer Intranet.

Tomczak told board members that 20 to 40 percent of the budgeted amount would go toward training.

The technology plan is part of an estimated $7.2 million equipment program the board is developing for the next five years.
