The state will give Metra a $500,000 grant for engineering work needed for a major rehabilitation of seven stations along the South Chicago branch of Metra’s Electric line, Gov. Jim Edgar said Monday. The state funds will be matched by $400,000 from Metra, Edgar said.

The project, will require an additional $10.5 million from the Regional Transportation Authority, Edgar said.

The stations involved are Stony Island, 71st Street; Bryn Mawr, 71st Street at Jeffery Boulevard; South Shore, 71st Street near Yates Avenue and South Shore Drive; Windsor Park, 75th Street and Exchange Avenue; Cheltenham, 79th Street and Exchange Avenue; 83rd Street at Exchange Avenue; and 87th Street near Commercial Avenue.
