The Giants and Dodgers haven’t been in a pennant race together since 1982, the year the Giants finished a close third but took delight, embarrassingly so, in the last-day home run by Joe Morgan off Terry Forster that handed the division title to the Atlanta Braves. Fifteen years. Almost forgot what it felt like. People assume that if you grew up a Dodgers fan in Los Angeles, you must hate the Giants and San Francisco. Not true. We’re too busy feeling sorry for San Francisco. Splendid little town. But where’s the parking lot? In San Francisco, you leave home to go to the game, and you might spend all night looking for an on-ramp. Leave the game to go home, and it might be daylight before you get out of the parking lot.
