If the Oilers thought they saw some empty seats in Houston last year, they should just wait until Sunday in Memphis.

Less than 13,500 tickets had been sold by Wednesday afternoon for the Oilers’ game with the Baltimore Ravens, and 10,000 of those are season tickets.

Unless sales pick up dramatically, the Oilers are in danger of breaking the franchise mark for low attendance set in their final game in Houston last season–15,131.

But the Oilers say they expect sales to pick up by Friday based on the trend of Memphis fans buying tickets just before game day.

Brunell progressing: Mark Brunell, Jacksonville’s $31 million quarterback, took live snaps in practice for the first time since tearing knee ligaments Aug. 9, although he wouldn’t guess whether he could play Monday night against Pittsburgh.

While Brunell ran a few simple plays, coach Tom Coughlin kept backup Rob Johnson out of practice until trainers could get a better idea how well he can move on his left ankle, which he sprained Aug. 31 against Baltimore. Brunell was not expected to return until Oct. 5 at the earliest, but he has been saying the last couple of weeks he was ahead of schedule.

Costly mistake: The Philadelphia Eagles released safety Tim Watson, who allowed a last-minute touchdown in Monday night’s 21-20 loss to Dallas. Watson, a four-year veteran in his first year with the Eagles, was victimized when a 14-yard pass from Troy Aikman went through his hands and was caught by Anthony Miller.

To take Watson’s roster spot, the Eagles signed free-agent safety Charles Emanuel to a one-year contract.
