I think the editorial on recent research that shows teenagers heed their parents (“Discovering the obvious,” Sept. 11) missed the point. I’m not defending the study, because I know little about it, but I believe that scientific research is required to establish facts, even when the findings end up validating things known by “intuition.”

After all, many people erroneously believe, based on their intuition, that heavy objects fall faster than light ones.
