James H. Herbert, 70, a Coast Guard veteran who served in World War II, died Thursday in his home in Naperville. Mr. Herbert’s Coast Guard service took him to China and the Philippines during the war, said his wife, Charlene. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Herbert graduated from Georgetown University. He had lived in Detroit before moving to Naperville nine years ago. Mr. Herbert was a retired carpet salesman and Marine reservist. In addition to his wife, Mr. Herbert is also survived by a son, James III. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
