It’s all about sound. Thank you to all those who helped reinvent Orchestra Hall! I was fortunate to attend the “Hard Hat” concert Sept. 30. What I heard makes me deeply grateful. Daniel Burnham left us with a beautiful hall, but alas, one whose sound was dry as whispers in a closet. Now, after 93 years, the dryness is gone.
Imagination, generous support, years of work and a superb acoustician have given us a great gift. Would that Theodore Thomas and Georg Solti could be with us now. Perhaps at last we have an acoustic environment worthy of our remarkable orchestra. Symphony Center is alive.
