Two people were killed in a shooting early Sunday in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

The victims were identified as James Oliver, who was in his 20s, of the 5800 block of South Peoria Street, and David McDaniel, 24, of the 1000 block of East Marquette Road.

Police responding to a call of shots fired in the 800 block of West 59th Street about 3:30 a.m. Sunday found Oliver lying on the sidewalk, dead of a gunshot wound.

Police learned that a witness drove McDaniel to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center. McDaniel, suffering a gunshot wound to the head, was transferred to Cook County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:52 a.m., a hospital administrator said.
