The Gravediggaz, the fathers of “horrorcore” rap, deliver a generally somber, occasionally sinister and always scathing package on “The Pick, the Sickle and the Shovel,” their second album. Frukwan (formerly of Stetsasonic) and Poetic anchor the lyrical direction, but the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and Prince Paul (another Stet alum) are the more well-known players. RZA largely sticks to rapping, allowing lesser-known affiliates to drench the work with macabre piano, drum and organ loops.
