At least one Schaumburg trustee is opposed to the village’s Teen Center participating in a Teen Council developed by the Schaumburg Park District and the Twinbrook YMCA.

Trustee Tom Dailly voted this week against the idea after voicing his concerns that the village may lose control of the center.

Trustee Mary Ecker explained that the creation of a Teen Council for the township will provide leadership opportunities and programming possibilities that will enhance existing youth services in the township.

Dailly, though, took exception to the first item on the Teen Council’s agenda, a “battle of the bands.”

Trustees, however, approved the motion 5-1 with a provision that they receive a progress report on the involvement of the village Teen Center in six months.

The township Teen Council is composed of about 30 teens from grades 7 through 12. Its mission is to provide recreational projects and community service projects for local teenagers.
