The Page 1 story “Professionals forsaking Loop for local downtowns,” (Sept. 22) seemed to purposely omit those of us who live in downtown Chicago.
As someone who lives and works in downtown Chicago, I enjoy having a five-minute walk to work. In addition, I also “hear the birds and see the trees rustle.” But more important than these benefits, I believe in not adding to suburban sprawl, pollution, gridlock and destruction of farmland. Also, children should be raised in an environment that is full of culture, architecture and diversity, as well as living where social skills are learned and practiced.
The only place all of these important factors can be found, and the only place to enrich children’s lives, is in the city. Not to mention that within five minutes of downtown are certain Chicago Public Schools that are top-rated in the state, as well as top private schools.
While I realize the suburbs are badly hurt as their residents abandon their own towns for the excitement of Chicago, your “advertisement” for the suburbs belongs in the classifieds, not as a misleading front-page story.
