Three of the nine people taken to Northern Illinois Medical Center in the wake of a two-car crash near Spring Grove on Tuesday have been treated and released, according to hospital spokeswoman Pat Johnson.

The other six were reported in good condition late Tuesday afternoon.

According to Officer Robert Joosten of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred about 1 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Zarnstorff Road and Illinois Highway 173 when Heidi Krauss of Chicago allegedly drove her southbound 1996 Chevrolet Astrovan into the path of a westbound 1986 Dodge Caravan being driven by Larry Pranger of Fox Lake.

Joosten said Krauss told him she saw Pranger’s van approaching, but apparently misjudged its distance and speed. Krauss was driving a group of six handicapped adults home from an outing at a nearby apple orchard at the time of the crash.
