Colleges: Division I-A football schools could count a win over a Division I-AA school once every four years as one of the six wins needed to qualify for a bowl game under a proposal approved by the NCAA Management Council. Division I-A schools now must have six victories over I-A opponents to qualify for a bowl. The Division I Board of Directors must approve the Management Council’s decision.
– Grambling’s Eddie Robinson, the winningest coach in college football history, was in good condition Tuesday at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, La., where he was admitted after complaining of breathing difficulties. Robinson, 78, is in his 55th and final season as head coach at Grambling, where his teams have a record of 408-160-15. This year’s team is 3-3 with five games to play.
Hockey: The Wolves have added defenseman Alexander Godynyuk, a native of Ukraine, on loan from the NHL’s St. Louis Blues.
– Defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh of the Colorado Avalanche is expected to miss two to three weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
