Police were searching for two suspects Thursday and trying to reassure residents after a rash of fatal shootings in the last two weeks.
A 30-year-old South Bend man died Wednesday night after being shot. Another man, 25, was being treated for a leg wound sustained in the same shooting incident.
The surge of violence began Oct. 10 when a man was shot to death as he exited his car. Within four days, three other men were dead.
Police spokesman Gary Horvath said that despite the shootings, the number of homicides has declined from a year ago. There have been 15 homicides in South Bend this year, 25 percent fewer than at this time last year, he said.
