I was pleased to see the article (Main news, Oct. 5) about how serious crime in the U.S. has dropped for the fifth year in a row. This was encouraging because most of the news usually focuses on crime, from drug dealing to murders.
Most news stories would lead me to believe that crime is on the rise, but when I read this article, it was promising to see that even murders had dropped. This was partly due to partnership between residents and police. Increased efforts to taking guns off the street are also paying off. I had thought that crime was taking over our streets, but this article gave me hope.
