Corn fight: French chemicals and drugs group Rhone-Poulenc SA said it filed a suit in North Carolina U.S. District Court against DeKalb Genetics Co. and Monsanto Co. for alleged misuse of its technology in the development of their transgenic “Roundup Ready” corn. Rhone-Poulenc claimed the seeds were created from genetic material it invented. Roundup Ready corn is a genetically altered corn designed to tolerate glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, widely used in the United States. It is due to be available to U.S. farmers next spring.
