James Colombo, 79, of Wildwood, an Army veteran and former instructor at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, died Thursday in Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. Mr. Colombo retired in 1961 from the Army after a 20-year career in the Signal Corps. He then began teaching at Great Lakes, where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Mr. Colombo is survived by his wife, Doreen; two daughters, Karen Markus and Lesley Nelson; a son, James; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three sisters; and four brothers. Services were Monday.
