A former track coach at Harvard High School and his wife pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges Wednesday for allowing an underage drinking party in their house this spring.
Christopher Kirkland, 45, pleaded guilty before Judge Gordon Graham of McHenry County Circuit Court to charges of providing liquor to a minor.
His wife, Karen, 44, pleaded guilty to permitting the use of the residence for underage drinking.
Graham fined them each $500, placed them on two years supervision, and ordered them to perform 100 hours of community service.
Kirkland, who was the cross-country coach in the fall of 1996 and the girls track coach last spring, resigned as coach shortly after the May 30 incident.
R. Mark Gummerson, attorney for Kirkland and his wife, said the couple’s son was home from college and held a party while the parents were there.
