Recent land purchases by District 157-C officials fit the school district’s strategy, said Supt. Pam Witt.

The district recently purchased a 40-acre parcel at Laraway Road and 116th Street for $23,500 an acre. On Tuesday the district expects to finalize its purchase of 35 acres at Pfeiffer and Steger Roads for $21,000 an acre.

The parcels are at the southwest and southeast areas of the school district, respectively. Both could be sites of new schools.

Witt said the district can accommodate another 500 students and will probably not need a new school within the next five years.
