Henry Roger Perina, 80, of Hinsdale, a past president of the West Suburban Concert Band, died Nov. 7 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove.
A native of Chicago, he lived in Hinsdale for 40 years. He was a graduate of Morton High School and a World War II veteran.
Mr. Perina was an engineer and worked in manufacturing and patent law for Chicago area-based Canteen Corp. and Triangle Industries, and Eischner Systems of Coburg, Germany.
He was a 37-year member and past president of the West Suburban Concert Band and the Elmhurst College Band, playing the clarinet.
“Music was truly his life,” said Mr. Perina’s daughter, Cynthia Curry. “My father was tireless in his efforts to interest young people in music. He saw it as a wonder outlet for them. Something that could provide them a lifetime of happiness.”
Other survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary; a son, Henry L.; a daughter, Deborah Lambin; two brothers; a sister; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange, 150 S. Ashland Ave., La Grange.
