If there were an award for the one statement that could perpetuate the ignorance surrounding sexual violence indefinitely, it would surely go to defense attorney Susan Smith. Smith, in her defense of alleged serial murderer and rapist Hubert Geralds Jr., said, “Hubert Geralds is a man with a man’s urges” (Metro, Nov. 12). Ugh!
