The first story for our new Trashin’ Fashion feature (Nov. 4), in which we bashed high heels, got a fun response. Thanks -and don’t forget to write and say which fashions you think are lame!

Dear Editor:
I say whatever a girl likes, she should wear. If she likes high heels, well, then, so be it. Personally, if the high heels mess up your feet, or they hurt your feet, I say, well, then toss them.
Jacob L., 13, Calumet City
In my opinion, there is no beauty in high heels. High heels might make women feel beautiful and trendy, but it’s not trendy to have your feet in pain constantly.
When someone wears high heels they are in more danger of falling or slipping.
Araceli A., 13, Calumet City
I feel that wearing a high heel shoe makes women look more sexy. It also helps if the woman is wearing a skirt or a dress.
Kevin B., Calumet City
People who wear high heels are not making a good fashion statement. They are just hurting themselves. They aren’t even in style anymore. The shoes that took the place of high heels are called “stacks.” They are comfortable and they look good too. They are worn by a lot of young people. They look good with jeans and dress clothes.
Adrian P., 13, Calumet City
I think that people should wear what they think is comfortable and in style to them. If everybody wore what they wanted instead of wearing little shoes that stunt the growth of your feet, or corsets that make women look skinnier, then our society would stop judging people on how they look.
Too many people have to be cool and in style, and that is not cool.
Katie F., 13, Calumet City
Gridiron gripes
In response to all the complaints about the Bears’ coaching and players, it’s not Erik Kramer’s fault. However, most of the blame definitely falls on Dave Wannstedt and Mike McCaskey. Now that the Bears are out of the playoffs, Wannstedt should at least try some young players out, like Darnell Autry.
Plus, McCaskey is overpaying underachieving players, like Rick Mirer and Alonzo Spellman. They are earning millions to sit on the bench.
And by the way, how about some blame on the defense? They’re by far the worst in the NFL. The offense is keeping the games close.
J.H., Netscape
I was outraged when I saw your cover on Nov. 11. Don’t you know that Chicago and Green Bay are rivals and they have been for a very long time? Fans in Chicago are just as dedicated as Green Bay fans. Green Bay can report on their own fans.
B.F., Chicago
Where’s the love?
What ever happened to being polite? Except for the rare letter, all I ever see in Backtalk are complaints and criticisms. I can just see the world when we’re adults. A huge traffic jam. Angry people honking their horns and yelling profanities out their windows. Two people arguing on the sidewalk about who bumped into who. An angry mob outside the Chicago Tribune’s doors. Really!
Backtalk would be a lot better and more interesting if people would write in saying, “I don’t like Hanson because …” instead of “Hanson sucks! They look like girls.”
Think about it.

Just ask
Drugs are a big thing now and just about everyone does them. Adults think kids do it to be cool, but how do the adults know? Why don’t they go ask the kids how come they do drugs?
Most kids do drugs because they think it feels good. But, while it feels good, it’s actually hurting you and killing brain cells.

Design differences
I would just like to ask: Who in God’s name designed the new Chicago Fire’s (Chicago’s major league soccer team) uniforms and logo? They’re utterly disgusting.
I know that uniforms don’t make a team good, but we have to take pride in our city. Having extremely plain uniforms doesn’t show how much pride Chicago really has, nor does it show our love of sports.

Rodman rules
Why does everybody hate Dennis Rodman? He’s really not a bad guy.
This Halloween he went out and carved pumpkins with kids. He plays good ball and that’s all that matters.
People hate the Worm because he has a bad temper. He shouldn’t be judged by his temper. He’s just making a living by playing good ball. He’s got a good mind and he’s very creative.
Ryan D., 13, Elmwood Park
Had it with Manson
Why do kids listen to Marilyn Manson? He is freaky and scary! He also says that the Antichrist is near. Can’t the music business do something about this?
Parents should not let their children listen to his music. His songs are just full of swear words and do not make any sense.
Colleen W., 14, Evergreen Park
Yo, Marlins!
In response to “Go, Fish!” (Nov. 4 Sports): I am very happy the Marlins won the World Series. Mostly because they have a lot of players like Bobby Bonilla who have gotten far in the playoffs, but then lost. Also because I am a big White Sox fan, and since those cheap Indians wouldn’t pay Albert Belle, I’m happy they lost.
Jim C., 13, Palos Park
Editor’s note: Hey, Jim, be sure to catch our Sports story on Series hero Craig Counsell!
The hunt
In response to “KidNews targets hunting” (Nov. 4 Tough News): I can understand killing animals for self-defense, but that’s all. Picture this: There you are, minding your own business, and then bang, you’re in a shop being sold. Just feel the pain of being shot for nothing. Now, how’s it feel?
Simon S., 15, Palos Heights
Hunting is nasty. Pulling a trigger on an animal as graceful and delicate as a fawn is disgusting. If you needed it to live, then that wouldn’t be too bad. But to murder a living creature for the sake of fun is repulsive.
Sean O., 12, Palos Heights
I just can’t help thinking that (animals) have the same rights as us: living, eating and caring for one another.
Kyungmin L., 9, Skokie
Whine no more
In response to C. H. (Nov. 11 Backtalk): I totally agree with you. I am not a boy, but I also think that those girls who send in stuff aren’t thinking. I am for women’s rights, but this has gone too far.
Most boys who are brought up in this world get the idea that they have to be “manly,” and in order to do that, they have to have power over girls. It’s not their fault that the media is saying that, it’s just the way they were brought up.
Also, I believe that it is kind of redundant to whine about people who are whining. It makes no sense at all. It’s like having a mirror in a mirror in a mirror in a mirror.

Waste not
I recently went to the store for my mom. I got five things and I endedup carrying three bags home. The things I got weren’t that big and I could have gotten themin two bags, or maybe one.
If we are so concerned about recycling, why are we wasting so much paper and plastic?

If you could talk to the best video-game designer on the planet, what would you ask? In a few weeks, we’ll be chatting with Nintendo’s main gamemaker, Shigeru Miyamoto. He’s the guy who came up a little plumber known as Mario. Supercool, huh? But no way did he stop there -he also created Super Mario 64 and Star Fox 64. You can see why we can’t wait to gab with the guy! And you can be part of it. What do you want to know about the video-game biz? What kind of games would you like to see in the future? Whatever questions, comments or complaints you have for Mr. Miyamoto, let us know and we’ll pass them on. (We’re making a phone call all the way to Japan, so we want to be sure we’re getting the info you want!) You can e-mail us at kidnews@aol.com or send snail mail using the Backtalk address at the bottom of the page (we left you some space below to write comments). We need all letters by Dec. 1. Thanks; can’t wait to hear from you!
