Girls basketball
– Camille Calhoun, Sullivan: Led the Tigers to the title of the Austin tournament, where she averaged 17.3 points a game and was named most valuable player.
– Shavonna Hunter, Hillcrest: Earned most valuable player honors at the Bolingbrook tournament, totaling 83 points, 28 rebounds, 17 assists and 24 steals in three games to lead the Hawks to their fourth consecutive title.
Football
– Justin Ruggio, Providence: Rushed for 172 yards and a late touchdown to seal the Celtics’ 4A semifinal victory over Morris.
– Dan Rumishek, Addison Trail: Led a game-ending defensive stand by deflecting two passes and recording a sack in the Blazers’ 21-19 6A semifinal victory over Naperville Central.
– Kyle Schrader, Kaneland: Scored two touchdowns and rushed for 139 yards as the Knights beat Marengo in the 3A semifinals and advanced to their first title game.
– Rich Schutt, Lincoln-Way: Rushed for two touchdowns and 183 yards and caught another in the Knights’ rout of Andrew in the 6A semifinals.
Girls swimming
– Kristen Brennan, St. Charles: Tied a record held by Palatine’s Alison Wimer by winning four medals at the state meet. She won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events and was a member of the winning 200 and state-record setting 400 freestyle relay teams as the Saints won their fourth straight team title.
– Susie Sample, Lyons Township, and Jessica Roberts, Hinsdale Central: Shared a first-place finish and a state record (:56.18) in the 100-yard backstroke.
– Jessica Wagner, Neuqua Valley: Won her second straight 100 breaststroke title in 1:02.68, breaking her own state record.
