Utah crater for HMO: Shares in Pacificare Health Systems fell sharply Tuesday after the health maintenance organization said its fourth-quarter earnings would be significantly below analysts’ estimates. The Santa Ana, Calif., company blamed higher than expected operating costs in the Utah market for the shortfall and said that it planned to sell its Utah operations. In morning trading, Pacificare shares were trading at $52, down $13, on Nasdaq.
