Cambridge Homes of Libertyville received approval for the second phase of its Apple Country subdivision at a recent Village Board meeting.

But the developer probably won’t be able to build for at least another year. That’s because Wauconda has been prohibited by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency from hooking on any new homes to its sanitary sewage system.

Cambridge plans to apply to the EPA for a permit to build a holding tank that would hold seven days of waste-water flow from the development. The company must receive the permit before Mayor James Eschenbauch will sign the final plat documents. But Cambridge does not plan to build the tank, preferring to wait until it can hook onto the sewer system.

The 59-unit development is the second part of a 95-home project that began before the EPA restrictions were implemented. The first phase began in fall 1995 and is nearly complete. The project is near Fairfield and Gossell Roads.
