The city of Waukegan’s alternate-day parking ordinance went into effect Monday for the winter season. It will be enforced through the end of March to aid the city in snow removal efforts.
The ordinance restricts overnight parking on city streets to the odd-numbered side of streets on odd-numbered days and the even-numbered side of streets on even-numbered days. The ordinance is enforced from 12:01 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. every day, including weekends, police said.
Police urged residents who park their cars on the street before midnight to remember that the ordinance will be enforced according to the next day’s date.
Violators risk a $15 parking ticket, police said. Although unpopular with many residents, the alternate parking ordinance has been in effect for more than 30 years.
