Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I got the surprise of my life when I picked up my grandson’s schoolbag! I thought I would throw my back out!

There were four textbooks, plus several notebooks and workbooks in the bag. This 5th grader has to lug about 20 pounds of books back and forth to school each day.

I wrote to textbook publisher Houghton-Mifflin three years ago and suggested soft covers but got no answer. I wrote to McGraw-Hill and also got no answer.

I may be a meddling grandma, but my grandsons’ backs are being strained far beyond reason. Why can’t the books be bound with soft durable covers?
