Mildred E. Helwig, 87, of Batavia, died Wednesday in Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva. She was a 1929 graduate of Chicago Business College and began work as an executive secretary in 1930. She last worked as an administrative officer for Bethphage Mission, which cares for disabled children in Nebraska. She served 30 years as Sunday superintendent and choir member in the former Beverly (now Bethany) Covenant Church in Chicago. She is survived by a son, Stan Jr.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters; and a brother. She will lie in state in Evangelical Covenant Church, 1314 Main St., Batavia, starting at 1 p.m. Monday with a service beginning at 2 p.m.
