Richard R. Schott, 46, of Chicago, a Chicago police officer for 24 years, died Wednesday after suffering a heart attack after he struggled with a prisoner at the Deering District police station. Schott, a lockup officer, joined the Chicago police force in 1973. He earned 48 honorable mentions, a departmental commendation and four complimentary letters. He is survived by a son, Robert; and two brothers. Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, 8200 S. Kostner Ave.
