A police officer escaped injury Monday night when one of five people fired shots at him, police said.
Two men were arrested and were being held Tuesday in police lockup, pending charges by the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
Before that shooting, shots were fired near Kane and Loucks Streets, and a witness described a silver Volvo station wagon involved in the shooting, police said. An officer saw a Volvo and tried to stop it in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, where it crashed into a tree.
Five men got out of the car, and one fired two or three shots at the officer, who took cover and did not return fire, said police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.
Four of the men ran into an apartment in the 800 block of North Lake Street, where they were arrested. Another was arrested behind a fast-food restaurant. A gun was recovered in a nearby back yard, Ferrelli said.
