Marian Woodward, 81, of Mt. Prospect, a secretary to the Mt. Prospect village manager and mayor for 12 years, died Saturday in Northwest Community Healthcare, Arlington Heights.

Mrs. Woodward was a member of the Mt. Prospect village staff from the mid-1960s through the late-1970s, during the community’s rapid growth of commercial and residential developments.

Mrs. Woodward was secretary to Village Manager Robert Eppley, Mayor Robert Teichert and the Fire and Police Board of Commissioners.

“When you talk about a confidential secretary, Marian’s name comes to mind,” said Village Clerk Carol Fields. “She was in a very high position but never put on airs. When things were going wrong, she was always there to give me moral support.”

Since 1966, Mrs. Woodward had been active with the Mt. Prospect Women’s Club and served as its president from 1983 to 1985.

“She was a good president and very thorough and helped rewrite the bylaws,” said Lorraine Ormeord, past president of the Mt. Prospect Women’s Club.

Mrs. Woodward also served as chairwoman of the Prospect Heights Book Review Club and as secretary during her 15 years of membership with the Business and Professional Women of Mt. Prospect.

She is survived by her husband, Claude; three sons, Paul, Tom and David; a sister; two grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday in Cincinnati.
