Spain’s royal family and ruling-party politicians joined Friday in condemning the killing of a town councilor, the 13th slaying this year blamed on the armed Basque separatist group ETA.
Jose Luis Caso, 64, was shot to death late Thursday in a bar in Irun, a city near the French border.
He was the third Popular Party politician to be killed in an apparent terrorist attack in two years.
There was no claim of responsibility Friday, but the government, political opposition and local media blamed ETA, which has waged a 29-year campaign for an independent homeland in northern Spain.
