Robert Elvart, 63, of Glenview died Saturday of brain cancer in Evanston Hospital. A graduate of Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., Mr. Elvart began working as an estimator for his father’s painting and decorating company in the late 1950s. By the 1970s, he had assumed ownership of Ray N. Elvart and Co., a job he held until his death. Mr. Elvart served in the U.S. Navy. He was a pilot and an avid bridge player and a prize-winning fisherman. He was an active member of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America. Survivors include two sons, Dan and Christopher; two daughters, Judy Neuman and Linda Shumate; his mother, Miriam; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Alice Millar Chapel, 1870 Sheridan Rd., Evanston.
