A 30-year-old Chicago man was killed Monday after he lost control of his car on Interstate Highway 88 and struck a light post, an Illinois state trooper said.

Rajendrakumar Patel, of the 4800 block of North Pulaski Road, Chicago, tried to avoid several containers in the westbound lanes near U.S. Highway 34, Master Sgt. Bill Schmitt said. After his 1994 Mazda crossed three lanes, he struck a light post and was thrown from the vehicle. Hedied at the scene.
