It took a lot of hands to open the doors to a homeless shelter. For the holidays, the shelter at 13424 Springfield Ave. found a few more in a group of high school students who made the shelter a warmer place.

Peggy Colliers, director of Robbins Action to Deliver Shelter (RADS), recently lauded the students of Shepard High School in Palos Heights and Richards High School in Oak Lawn for their gift donations.

“The students were so helpful and enthusiastic. They were just wonderful.”

The Leo Club at Shepard High, which has more than 200 student-members, donated 32 gift bags with toiletries and socks as well as canned food, ham and turkeys. The club also donated Christmas stockings to children living in homeless shelters.

A food drive conducted by Richards students brought in canned goods, socks and toiletries. The students also bought Christmas presents for needy children in Robbins.
