A baseball field being built as part of a $7.3 million sludge lagoon project near 47th Street and County Line Road will bear the name of two former Hinsdale residents who were pioneers in Chicago baseball.
Trustees have voted to name the ballpark Veeck Field, after the late William Veeck Sr., a former Chicago Cubs president, and his son, the late Bill Veeck Jr., the former owner of the Chicago White Sox.
Veeck family members who still live in Hinsdale donated funds to underwrite the cost of lighting, infield preparations, a backstop fence, bleachers and turf for the field, which is scheduled to open in 2000.
