Your Dec. 10 story on the “dumping” of mental patients by two-thirds of U.S. hospitals (Main news) makes an excellent case for mental-health insurance parity legislation.

Individuals with brain diseases are modern-day lepers. Illinois legislators must end health-insurance discrimination against the mentally ill by requiring health-care policies to cover severe mental illnesses under the same terms and conditions that they apply to other illnesses and diseases. Without such a law, the “redlining” and “dumping” of individuals with brain diseases will continue.
