Firefighters rescued a mother and her 3-year-old daughter Tuesday afternoon from a burning apartment in a Chicago Housing Authority complex at 500 W. Oak St.
The blaze began around 2:30 p.m. in an unoccupied apartment on the eighth floor of the building and spread next door to the woman’s dwelling, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Max Walchuk. He said flames burned through the front door, trapping the woman and her child in the apartment until firefighters arrived.
The woman declined medical services for herself and her daughter, and no one else was injured in the fire.
