Richard Mook, 61, a retired general contractor who built scores of homes in the south and southwest suburbs and in Indiana over the past 30 years, died of cancer Saturday in the Hospice House of Naples, Fla. As president of the Frankfort-based Mook Construction Co., Mr. Mook built homes in Homewood, Flossmoor, Olympia Fields, Manteno and Frankfort before his recent retirement. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the construction battalion that helped build a naval base on the Caribbean island of Antigua from 1955 through 1957. Mr. Mook grew up on Chicago’s South Side and was a longtime resident of Olympia Fields before moving to Frankfort. Before starting his own construction business in 1964, he was a Riverdale police officer for several years. “He was a hard worker, a fair businessman, a good father and a good husband,” said his daughter, Linda Mook. Other survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; another daughter, Carol; and a sister. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st St., Orland Park. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony Catholic Church, 7659 W. Sauk Trail, Frankfort.
