A deal for the sale or refinancing of the 3.7 million-square-foot Merchandise Mart may be in the works, according to a source familiar with the property. The Mart is owned by the Kennedy family, which also owns the adjacent Apparel Center and land along the Chicago River. A spokeswoman for Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. declined to comment.
