District 303 Supt. Francis Kostel outlined his budget priorities at a recent school board meeting. The board will set its priorities for the next school year at a meeting Monday.
Kostel emphasized the need for scrutiny of instructional support for reading and language arts in the wake of falling standardized test scores in those subjects district-wide.
“It has been a number of years since we evaluated the amount of support we provide to reading programs at the elementary level and middle school level, and our educational task force group has strongly recommended additional support in that area,” Kostel said.
Board member Chris Hansen agreed with Kostel’s evaluation.
“I think looking at extra support in this area is a good idea,” Hansen said.
