A developer this week tried to dispel concerns that its proposed shopping center in Deer Park would be a “regional mall.”
During a Deer Park Planning Commission meeting, a representative of the developer, Poag & McEwen of Memphis, said plans call for an upscale site intended solely to serve affluent consumers in Deer Park, Barrington, Long Grove and neighboring communities.
Retailers such as Brooks Brothers, The Limited and The Gap are planned for the nearly 500,000-square-foot site at Rand and Long Grove Roads, said Dan Poag, a partner in the firm.
Robertson said the developer eventually may want to build a small hotel on the site. The disclosure prompted some concern.
“This is a significant development,” said Richard Karl, Deer Park village president. “We won’t vote on the proposal until after a series of meetings.”
