Quarterback Doug Flutie left the CFL to sign with the Buffalo Bills for the potential to make $5 million the next two years, but the only guaranteed money he got was a $25,000 signing bonus.
And here’s what he did with that bonus: Donated half of it to Hunter’s Hope Foundation, the charity started by former Buffalo quarterback Jim Kelly, whose 11-month-old son, Hunter, suffers from Krabbe’s disease, a degenerative genetic disorder that affects the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
And Flutie donated the other $12,500 to a Buffalo chapter of the Autism Society because his 6-year-old son, Doug, suffers from a form of autism that first surfaced when he was 3.
For a guy who supposedly can’t see over the line of scrimmage, Flutie has a terrific view of life.
