Ralph W. Wiehrdt of Naperville, formerly of Palatine, was a retired sales agent for C.R. Daniels Co. and a past president of the Palatine Park District. Mr. Wiehrdt, 79, died Saturday in ManorCare Health Services, Naperville.
Mr. Wiehrdt, who was born in Palatine, graduated from Palatine High School. He was drafted into the Army Air Forces during World War II and served as a bombardier and navigator with the 306th Bomb Group out of England. He was received a number of decorations. He was called for service during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. He later joined the Air Force Reserve and retired as lieutenant colonel after 20 years of service.
He worked for 20 years for C.R. Daniels, a conveyor belt company with headquarters in Baltimore. He retired in 1981.
Mr. Wiehrdt was president of the Palatine Park District during the 1950s.
“He was outgoing,” said his wife, Mildred Wiehrdt. “He had many friends. He was helpful.”
Other survivors include a son, William; a brother, Edward; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 until the start of the 7:30 p.m. services Thursday in Ahlgrim and Sons Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine.
