William J. “Joe” Fremon, 85, of Akron, formerly of Palatine, had been an assistant vice president for labor relations at the Chicago and North Western Transportation Co. He died Friday in Akron. Mr. Fremon was a World War II Army veteran and served in Europe. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1937. He served in France and Belgium during World War II and earned his law degree from Northwestern University in 1948. He worked for Chicago and North Western from 1948 until his retirement in 1981. Mr. Fremon was an avid golfer who shot a hole-in-one at age 70. Survivors include his wife, Irene; two sons, Mike and David; a daughter, Pam; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday in Lancaster, Mo.
