On Monday, several national and local deals came together, including Laidlaw Environmental Services’ acquisition of Elgin-based Safety-Kleen Corp. Among the deals:
Alltel/360 Communications
– Phone company Alltel Corp. is buying cellular phone service provider 360 Communications Co. for about $6 billion in stock and debt, creating one of the nation’s largest wireless communications carriers.
Laidlaw/Safety-Kleen
– Recycler Safety-Kleen said it has approved a revised takeover offer from Laidlaw, based in Columbia, S.C., that is valued at nearly $2 billion.
Aetna/New York Life
– Aetna Inc. has agreed to buy the health-care unit of New York Life Insurance Co. for $1.05 billion in cash
Abbott Laboratories/International Murex Technologies
– The companies said they have entered into a definitive agreement for Abbott to acquire Murex in a cash tender offer valued at approximately $234 million.
Platinum Technology/Logic Works
– Platinum announced it has signed an agreement to acquire date modeling leader Logic Works Inc. in a deal work about $175 million in stock.
St. Paul Bancorp/Beverly Bancorporation
– St. Paul Bancorp agreed to merge with Beverly Bancorporation in a stock deal valued at roughly $170 million.
