Robert L. Gillespie, 68, an area golf pro for more than 30 years, died in the York Convalescent Home in Elmhurst Friday. A life member of the Professional Golfers’ Association, he was a pro at White Pines Golf Course in Bensenville and at Golfland Golf Range in Melrose Park. Mr. Gillespie also taught the sport at Triton College. Mary Gillespie said her husband worked during his professional career to make golf enjoyable for others. “He would teach you so you would enjoy the game,” she said. A native of Bradner, Ohio, Mr. Gillespie and his wife moved to Chicago in 1959. Other survivors include a son, Michael; a daughter, Andrea Scandura; a brother, Ralph; a sister, Colleen Wollam; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday in Wayne, Ohio, with the funeral there on Saturday.
