A new partnership between Arlington Heights High School District 214 and area hospitals is giving students a chance to explore careers in medicine.
Rolling Meadows High School teacher Wayne Wagner said students are working with the University of Illinois at Chicago, Lutheran General Hospital and several medical doctors in the community in cooperation with the district’s Talent Development Program.
Last month, students met with Dr. Bates Noble, the former sports doctor for the Chicago Bulls, and Dr. Alfred Clemente, a surgeon from Arlington Heights.
This summer, students are expected to attend programs offered by the National Youth Leadership Foundation Summer Program in Medicine.
Wagner said students will spend 11 days living on the campus of a Chicago medical school, attending classes and labs and shadowing doctors.
In addition, practical experiences will be offered to one student from each of the district’s six high schools during a six-week internship at Lutheran General Hospital.
