Leo C. Rubin, 80, the longtime owner and operator of Park Lane Valet Cleaners in Lakeview, died at his Chicago home Thursday. For more than 53 years, Mr. Rubin ran the dry-cleaning store at the base of the Park Lane Hotel at Surf Street and Sheridan Road. Several times over the last 15 years, “Best of Chicago” lists named his establishment as one of the top 10 tailors in Chicago. Born in Chicago in 1917, he lived his entire life on the North Side. He attended Lake View High School and Wright College in Chicago. Mr. Rubin served in the U.S. Army and received the Bronze Star for his service in North Africa during World War II. He was a member of Emanuel Congregation, was past president of its brotherhood and served on the synagogue’s board of trustees. He also served as the synagogue’s photographer for many events. Mr. Rubin enjoyed taking pictures of his children and grandchildren. “You never saw him without a camera in his hand,” said his son, Larry. Other survivors include his wife, Gertrude; two brothers, Jack Adler and Sidney Rubin; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Piser Chapel, 5206 N. Broadway, Chicago.
